Fort Buford State Historic Sites and the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center invite families to Confluence Discovery Day on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT. This free, family-friendly event will bring history, culture, science and nature together for a full day of hands-on discovery across both sites. Visitors can meet historians, scientists, cultural presenters, and reenactors while exploring everything from fossils, wildlife and Ice Age America to Indigenous cultures and lifeways, Lewis and Clark, the fur trade, military history and frontier life. Presenters and organizations from across the region will offer demonstrations, activities and opportunities to learn directly from experts in their fields. Throughout the day, try atlatl throwing, primitive fire-making, owl pellet investigations, cyanotype nature printing, Indigenous and frontier games, tin-punch lanterns, Morse code and signal flags, tipi raising, adobe making and much more. Visitors can also explore Fort Buford’s historic buildings and discover the stories of the people who lived, worked and traveled through the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence. Come for an activity or spend the whole day exploring. Admission is free, and food trucks will be on-site throughout the event!
